Volleyball: Paradise upsets Holliday

The Paradise Lady Panthers pulled off a stunning upset of Holliday Friday.

Paradise beat Holliday, which was coming off a victory over No. 3 Boyd, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20.

“We played great,” said Paradise coach Danny Anderson.

Harley Mayfield buried 10 kills. Gracie Barnett and Ashley Kosman added nine each.

Saylea Mayfield handed out 22 assists and Kennedy Schneck 13.

Barnett and Kosman led the defensive effort with 14 digs apiece.

Dori Skogberg served three aces.


The Decatur Lady Eagles dropped their second straight match in District 9-4A Friday, falling in three sets to rival Argyle.

Argyle won 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 in a back-and-forth match.

It was Decatur coach Clark Oberle’s first time to face his former school. He led the program to the 2015 state title.

Decatur led in the third set but couldn’t hold off Argyle.

The Lady Eagles dropped to 3-2 in the league heading into the second half, which started Tuesday at Bridgeport.


The Boyd Lady Yellowjackets quickly bounced back from their first 8-3A setback Friday.

Boyd beat Bowie 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.

Jordyn Todd buried 19 kills and hit .381 in the match. Macee Valtr finished with eight kills.

Macey McCune and Torie Pellegrini doled out 14 assists each.

Larrin Maxwell made 21 digs.

Jacey Cate blocked three shots.


The Chico Lady Dragons swept Newcastle Saturday, 25-22, 25-20, 25-13.

Jessica Byers put down 12 kills with two blocks. Michaela Martin added 11 kills.

Laynee North set the ball 58 times.

Kayla Clampitt made 19 digs.


The Alvord Lady Bulldogs pushed District 9-2A leader Poolville to five sets before falling Saturday.

Poolville outlasted Alvord 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 15-8.

“It was a great overall match,” said Alvord coach Catherine Kelly. “Everyone was on and the girls are coming together at the right time of the season. I’m proud of their efforts and hard work.”

Kinly Walker finished with eight kills and made 27 digs. Christina Thomas added five kills.

Kendall Connolly handed out 15 assists with 25 digs.


The Northwest Lady Texans made quick work of Brewer Friday, winning in three sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.

Analise Lucio directed an efficient attack with 29 assists. Northwest hit .222.

Bailey Tompkins finished with 12 kills and Kori James 11.

Lucio also made 10 digs.
