Volleyball: Decatur carries win streak into district

The Decatur Lady Eagles will head into District 9-4A play on a four-match winning streak.

The Lady Eagles (19-10) closed out non-district play Friday, going on the road to beat longtime rival Abilene Wylie in four games (25-16, 30-32, 27-25, 25-21).

Junior Satasha Kostelecky and freshman Trinity Vinzant led a balanced Decatur attack. Kostelecky put down nine kills in 17 attacks (.529) and also blocked four shots defensively. Vinzant had nine kills.

Freshman setter Makenna Gantt handed out 20 assists. Mallory Downe had 11.

Defensively, Decatur made 104 digs. Cidnee Howard dug 33 shots. Vinzant made 17.

Decatur opens 9-4A play at home against Bridgeport Friday.


The fourth-ranked Boyd Lady Yellowjackets eased to their 26th straight district win Friday, sweeping City View (25-5, 25-9, 25-17).

Boyd (22-6, 3-0) hit .366. Jordyn Todd buried 11 kills and Shaylee Martin nine.

Tori Pellegrini doled out 22 assists.

Laney Pellegrini served five aces.


The Northwest Lady Texans fell to 1-2 in District 6-5A with a 3-0 setback Friday against Aledo (25-13, 25-18, 25-22).

Northwest (19-10) managed only 24 kills, hitting .102 against Aledo.

Kori James finished with nine kills. Oakley O’Dell had six in her return to the lineup. Bailey Tompkins also had six.

Analise Lucio handed out 21 assists.


After going up 2-1, the Paradise Lady Panthers couldn’t put away Jacksboro Friday.

Jacksboro rallied to win in five games, 25-22, 15-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Gracie Barnett finished with 20 kills for Paradise. Ashley Kosman added 14 and Harley Mayfield 13.

Saylea Mayfield tallied 31 assists and Kennedy Schneck 18.

Harley Mayfield finished with 23 digs.

Paradise is 0-3 in 8-3A.
