Volleyball: County teams win district contest

Facing 8-3A’s other unbeaten team, the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets rose to the occasion Friday.

The Lady Yellowjackets hit .300 in rolling to their 28th straight district win in a sweep of Henrietta, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15.

The fourth-ranked Lady Yellowjackets (24-6) moved to 5-0 in 8-3A this season and took over sole possession of first place.

Three Boyd hitters racked up double-digit kill totals. Laney Pellegrini blasted 12. Macee Valtr finished with 11 and Jordyn Todd 10. Jacey Cate and Shaylee Martin added eight each.

Setters Macey McCune and Tori Pellegrini directed the efficient offensive showing. Tori Pellegrini tallied 18 assists and McCune 11.

Larrin Maxwell made 15 digs and Valtr 12.


After their first 9-2A setback Tuesday, the Chico Lady Dragons bounced back Saturday with a win over Ranger.

Chico (19-3, 4-1) won 27-25, 24-26, 25-11, 25-23.

Jessica Byers smashed 22 kills and served six aces.

Michaela Martin put down 16 kills with six blocks.

Cassie Byers landed 11 kills.

Laynee North set the ball 114 times.


Led by Christina Thomas and Kinly Walker, the Alvord Lady Bulldogs swept Newcastle Saturday.

Alvord (11-9) won 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.

Thomas buried 12 kills with two blocks. Walker put down 10 kills and made 25 digs.

Kendall Connolly handed out 23 assists and dug 13 shots. Audrey Beasley made 27 digs.

“The girls played great,” said Alvord coach Catherine Kelly. “They worked from the very beginning ’til the very end.”


Bailey Tompkins landed 13 kills and hit .357 to lead the Northwest Lady Texans to a three-game victory over Azle Friday.

Northwest (21-10, 3-2) won 25-20, 25-22, 25-13.

The Lady Texans hit .276 as a team. Kori James and Karly Stallings had six kills apiece.

Analise Lucio handed out 27 assists.

Oakley O’Dell made 14 digs.


The Paradise Lady Panthers broke through to pick up their first victory in 8-3A Friday, sweeping City View.

Paradise won 25-13, 25-17, 25-13.

Gracie Barnett and Ashley Kosman put down eight kills apiece.

Saylea Mayfield doled out 16 assists and Kennedy Schneck seven.

Alexis Henderson and Danae Meadows blocked two shots each.

Harley Mayfield and Barnett dug nine shots. Barnett also served four aces and Saylea Mayfield three.
