The playoffs were unchartered territory for the Alvord Lady Bulldogs last season when they took on the Valley View Lady Eagles in the bi-district round of the 2A playoffs.

Alvord fell to Valley View in four sets, ending its first full-fledge varsity season in decades.

Monday, the Lady Bulldogs return to the postseason to take on Valley View again in the bi-district round in the same site as last year’s match – the University of North Texas. The match starts at 7 p.m.

“We’re definitely ready to go. We know what it’s like,” said Alvord junior Kinly Walker. “It’s our second time to go into the playoffs. Last year was a trial run.”

Alvord heads into the playoffs at 16-17 and as the third seed out of 9-2A.

Alvord lost its final regular season match to Bryson Tuesday 25-18, 25-16, 25-22.

Despite that result, Alvord coach Catherine Kelly said her squad enters the postseason confident.

“They are talking about getting a gold ball and going to the next round,” Kelly said. “If we can get our serves in and hit the ball well, we should be good.”

The Lady Bulldogs know they must be ready for Valley View middle blocker Kelci Nanney, who has 318 kills.

Alvord lost to Valley View in non-district in the season opener (26-24, 25-19, 26-24). Alvord did not have middle blocker Christina Thomas for the match.
