The Northwest Texans scored points in every event, including winning the discus and high jump, to run away with the District 6-5A title Thursday at Chisholm Trail High School.

The Texans finished with 146 – 29.5 better than second-place Aledo.

“It was a great performance by all our athletes,” said Northwest coach Brad Clark. “They all stepped up to the competition and did their best. I would say the fact that we had numerous athletes that did their best helped the team out. But it was our guys like Jack Prosise getting fourth in pole vault, Jacob Webster that got fourth in the 3,200, Colton Kelly getting sixth n the 800 and Briat Broadstreet in the long jump that was the difference in us winning district.”

Caden McDonald led a sweep of the medal stand in the discus for the Texans. McDonald threw 167-2 for the victory. Carson took second with a toss of 143-9. Cooper McDonald grabbed bronze with an effort of 135-8.

“Caden went out and did what he had to do to win the meet,” Clark said. “He is focused on getting back to state and whatever it takes to get there.”

Carson Hickman cleared 6-6 to capture the title in the high jump.

“Carson Hickman has been a big surprise. We just got him out of the basketball gym after their state tournament run,” Clark said. “He came out and competed really well.”

The Texans medaled in two of the three relays.

The quartet of James Doughtie, Jared Hobbs, David Rosero and Kaine Sloan took second in the 4×400 in 3:26.29.

“Our 4×400 dropped three seconds off their season-best time to get second in an extremely close race until the end,” Clark said.

Gavin Holmes, Eliseo Cooper, Syrus Moore and DeMareus Hosey turned a lap in 42.83 for third in the 4×100.

Hobbs earned silver medals in both hurdles, running 15.13 in the 110 and 40.15 in the 300.

Zach Newman finished second in the shot put.

Jarred O’Connor earned regional bids in the 800 and 1,600.

The Lady Texans garnered fourth.

Jenna Dean captured the gold medal in the discus with a throw of 108-0.5.

Oakley O’Dell took second in the high jump, clearing 4-10.

Lindsay Klasek ran 12:32.11 for second in the 3,200.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the 5-6/5A area meet April 12 and 13 at Texan Stadium.
