Softball: Paradise takes second at Brock tourney

The Paradise Lady Panthers finished second over the weekend at the season-opening Brock Classic.

The Lady Panthers fell 2-0 to Brock in the finals of the gold bracket.

Paradise went 3-2 over the weekend with victories over Randall (3-1), Stephenville (2-1) and Brownwood (7-2).

Azle handed Paradise its other loss 8-0.

“For most part, we had good pitching and defense,” said Paradise coach Karin Essig. “We hit three home runs. We will get more consistent at the plate.”

Kailey Thomas belted a home run and drove in three against Randall.

Kendall Candioto struck out nine and allowed a run on two hits.

Thomas struck out six in holding Stephenville to a run in five innings.

Brooklyn Davis and Candioto hit homers against Stephenville.

The Lady Panthers return to action Thursday at the Glen Rose Tournament.

DECATUR OPENS WITH THREE WINS

The Decatur Lady Eagles started the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Midlothian 3-1, 5-3.

The Lady Eagles scored a 5-2 win over Petrolia Monday.

SISSIES SCORE THREE VICTORIES AT JACKSBORO

The Bridgeport Sissies finished 3-2 over the weekend at the Jacksboro Tournament, while battling injuries and illness.

The Sissies blasted Millsap 15-1 before a 9-2 victory over Perrin and 10-1 decision against Olney.

Bridgeport dropped its final two games 13-0 and 9-2 to Breckenridge and Holliday without their front-line pitchers.

Hailey Hollingsworth hit a grand slam and drove in six runs against Millsap. She also had a triple. She picked up the win in the circle.

Shaye Boswell drove in three against Perrin.

NORTHWEST FINISHES 3-3 AT TOURNEY

The Northwest Lady Texans split its six games over the weekend at the Bryan Tournament.

The Lady Texans beat Bryan 8-6, Shadow Creek 22-1 and Conroe 1-0.

Hannah Copeland and Kelsey Rhine combined for a three-hit shutout against Conroe with Shelby Hodo driving in the game’s only run.

McKenzie Middlebrook and Tarah Hilton drove in three runs each against Shadow Creek.

Caitlyn Canada homered and Rhine collected three RBIs against Bryan.
