Needing a solid ride in the short-go Monday, Hadley Miller kept with the same strategy that has served him well throughout his young career.

“I just held on tight,” said the Boyd bull rider.

As the lone rider to cover all three bulls, Miller won the 14-17 division in bull riding at the Junior National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Miller put together scores of 76, 70.5 and 86 to secure the buckle.

“I rode really good and came out with a victory. It’s one of the biggest [of my career],” Miller said.

Along with the championship buckle, Miller secured another saddle for his trophy case.

The Junior NFR is held at the same time as the pro finals, which are held each December at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

“It’s like a pro atmosphere. It was great, with music blaring when you’re riding,” Miller said.

“It makes me want to work hard and get my pro card.”

After winning the Junior NFR title, Miller will now focus on his defense of the North Texas High School Rodeo Association all-around title.

Last spring, Miller won saddles in bull riding and calf roping in addition to the all-around title.

This year, he is leading the all-around race and the bull riding. Miller is second in calf roping and fourth in team roping heading.

“I’ll keep practicing and getting ready for the high school rodoes after the break in January,” Miller said. “[Winning the all-around title] is the plan.”
