Northwest lands in 5A II; other Wise schools stay put

The Northwest Texans will compete in the new 5A Division II next fall for football.
Northwest fell in the smaller of the two classes in the new division split for 5A when the University Interscholastic League announced the conference cutoffs and division splits Wednesday morning.
Northwest turned in an enrollment of 1,791 on Oct. 27, the UIL snapshot date.
The 2018 season will be the first year for a division split in 5A. The range for 5A Division II is 1,150 to 1,839.
Northwest’s Byron Nelson (2,579) and Eaton (2,222) landed in 6A (2,190 and above).
The rest of the Wise County schools are staying put. Decatur will again be in 4A Division I (790 to 1,149) for football and 4A in the rest of its activities. Decatur turned an enrollment of 1,054 in October.
Bridgeport will stay in 4A Division II (505 to 789) with an enrollment of 651.
Boyd (401) and Paradise (349) are back in 3A Division I (335 to 504).
Alvord (212) and Chico (163) will stay in 2A Division I (161.5 to 224).
Slidell, with an enrollment of 60, is in Class A (104.9 and below).
The UIL will announce district alignments for football and basketball for 2018-20 on Feb. 1.
