Football: Panthers return home looking for win

After two tough games on the road to start the season, the Paradise Panthers finally get the opportunity to play at home Friday.

Paradise welcomes in the Jacksboro Tigers to Panther Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers fell to Henrietta last week 27-12. Turnovers spelled the Panthers’ doom. Paradise turned the ball over four times. For the season, Paradise is a minus-4 in turnover margin.

Also against Henrietta, the Panthers were hurt by big plays. All three of the Bearcats’ offensive touchdowns came on plays 20 or more yards.

“It boils down to we need to quit giving up the big plays and giving the ball up offensively,” said Paradise coach Ronnie Gage. “If we do that, we have a chance to be a decent team.”

Paradise faces a Jacksboro squad that is 2-0. The Tigers beat Windthorst 36-28 last week.

The Tigers ran for 446 yards. Caleb Keith ran for 171 yards and Hunter Hackley 152.

Gage said the Panthers must be ready for the Tigers’ power running game.

“They want to move the chains and control the ball, just like us,” Gage said.

Offensively, the Panthers could be without fullback Lane Upton again. He went out in the first half against Holliday in the opener.
