The Alvord Bulldogs couldn’t capitalize on a strong defensive effort last Friday as they struggled to generate offense.

The Bulldogs managed only 62 yards and gave up a fumble that was returned for a touchdown in a 13-0 loss to Era.

Alvord dropped to 0-3 and has yet to score this season.

“It’s becoming frustrating, and it’s causing the kids to press too hard,” said Alvord coach Pete Hart. “We’ll have a drive that will go a few plays and then we’ll have a penalty or turnover.”

Hart also said teams are loading up on the line of scrimmage to stop the run.

“We’ll face that until we can consistently stretch the field with the offense,” Hart said.

Defensively, Alvord held Era to just 11 yards in the first half last week. Era scored on a long run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

“We had a letdown and they scored on the long run. Other than that, our run defense was good,” Hart said.

Alvord will face an Electra team facing some of the same struggles at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tiger Stadium.

Electra also has been blanked in three games. They fell to City View 14-0 last week.

“It’s a big game because someone finally has to score to win the game,” Hart said. “We’re their homecoming game. They have some talented kids and can move the ball offensively. Defensively, we have to be ready. Offensively, we need to find some consistency.”
