Boyd and Paradise runners will get a chance to scope out their competition in 8-3A Saturday with the district’s teams competing at the Boyd Invitational.

Boyd coach Oscar Hernandez agreed it should be a good preview for the Oct. 12 district championships on the same course.

The meet starts at 8 a.m. with the varsity girls race and will be followed by the varsity boys, junior varsity and middle school races.

Boyd is expecting more than 700 runners for all of the races.

“It’s really grown,” said Hernandez about the second-year event. “It helps that we hold district. It’s also the first meet for a lot of teams.”

Along with the 8-3A teams, the race has drawn several other strong teams from the region.

“Whitesboro is a top 10 team and has two state caliber runners. Bridgeport will be here, and they had three state qualifiers last year,” Hernandez said. “There should be some good competition.”

The Yellowjackets are coming off winning the Cowtown Challenge Friday. Boyd placed four runners in the top nine at the race.
