Basketball: Squads hit floor for holiday hoops

While some Wise County basketball teams compete in the Whataburger Tournament this weekend, several more schools will duke it out in other holiday tournaments in the area.

The Alvord, Boyd, Chico, Bridgeport and Paradise boys will all be in action starting Thursday along with the Alvord, Boyd, Decatur and Paradise girls.

Bridgeport will be hosting its annual holiday event. The Bulls will start play at 9 a.m. Thursday against Paradise. The Bulls then take on Aubrey at noon. Paradise faces Joshua at 3 p.m.

The second day of the tournament Friday will include bracket play.

The Yellowjackets and Dragons will compete in the NCTC Tournament. Boyd opens with Valley View at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Chico faces Trinity Valley at 3 p.m. Both games will be in the Gainesville High School gym.

Alvord travels to Windthorst’s tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs, Lady Jackets and Lady Eagles will all play in the NCTC Tournament. Decatur will tip off against Muenster at 9 a.m. at the Gainesville High School gym. Alvord will meet Dodd City at 10:30 a.m. Boyd takes on the Lindsay JV at 9 a.m. at Lindsay High School.

The Lady Panthers are slated to compete in the Burkburnett Tournament.
