Basketball: Slidell wins league opener

The Slidell Lady Greyhounds started their defense of the District 21-A title with a 48-34 win over Saint Jo Tuesday.

Cate Zuniga scored 18 points and Bailey Meyer 13.

The Lady Greyhounds jumped out to a 30-10 lead at halftime. Slidell was outscored 24-18 in the second half.

BRIDGEPORT 37, LINDSAY 29

The Bridgeport Sissies struggled to put the ball in the basket until the fourth quarter Tuesday.

The Sissies then used a 20-point final frame to put away the Lindsay Lady Knights 37-29.

Bridgeport moved to 11-1 on the season.

“Our girls had to persevere through a rough shooting night,” said Bridgeport Coach Dallas Taylor. “I was happy to see continuous effort and fight. It finally paid off in the fourth when we finally found the basket. Defensive intensity and execution was a big part of the victory.”

Morgen Davidson paced the Sissies with 12 points. Delaney Ingram finished with six points and seven rebounds. Lexine Stone put in seven points and made five steals.

The Sissies managed only 17 points through the first three quarters.

LAKE COUNTRY 52, DECATUR 36

Morgan Campbell poured in 25 points to lead Lake Country to a 52-36 win over Decatur Tuesday.

Decatur shot 30 percent from the field, managing only 24 points over the final three quarters.

Macy Downe scored eight points. Gracie Isham added seven points with nine rebounds. Logan Cullop scored six.

BRYSON 28, CHICO 24

Bryson held off Chico for a 28-24 victory Tuesday.

Laynee North and Michaela Martin scored six points apiece.

“We are a very young team trying to learn the game of basketball and are in the process of rebuilding,” said Chico coach Jody Carter. “The girls give tremendous effort, but we just have to keep working each day on fundamentals and gain confidence to overcome adversity.”

VALLEY VIEW 44, ALVORD 36

The Valley View Lady Eagles held the Alvord Lady Bulldogs to seven points in the second half Tuesday in a 44-36 victory.

Alvord led 29-16 at halftime. Valley View went on a 15-2 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 31.

Valley View closed the game by outscoring Alvord 11-5 in the fourth.
