Basketball: Slidell wins Era tournament

The Slidell Greyhounds won the Era tournament over the weekend, defeating S&S, Valley View, Collinsville and Era to claim the title.

The Greyhounds moved to 8-4 on the season and have now won six games in a row.

Layton Shelton was Slidell’s leading scorer in the tournament, averaging 15.5 points per game. The Greyhounds had at least two players score in double figures each game, averaging 76 points per contest.

The Greyhounds held S&S scoreless in the first quarter, jumping out to a 30-0 lead in the first eight minutes. By halftime, Slidell had still only allowed three points, rolling to an 82-26 victory.

The closest game the Greyhounds won was a 21-point victory over Valley View.

Hunter Horner was Slidell’s second-leading scorer in the tournament, averaging 10.3 points per game. The Greyhounds resume action Tuesday with a road game at Valley View.
