Fueled by a 19-1 run to begin the game, Bridgeport quickly took command with a relentless full-court press. Forcing turnovers and creating easy baskets in transition, the Sissies cruised to a 73-51 victory over Dallas Christian in the quarterfinal of the Whataburger Tournament consolation bracket.

“We’ve got good, quick guards,” said Bridgeport coach Dallas Taylor. “We apply a lot of up-in-your-face pressure. That rattles teams.”

Three different Bridgeport players ended the morning in double figures, led by freshman Jade Hall, who scored a team-high 14 points. Morgen Davidson and Ashley Ingram posted 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Bridgeport outscored the Lady Chargers 27-7 in the first quarter, forcing multiple errors from Dallas Christian. At times, the Lady Chargers struggled even getting the ball into the frontcourt, with the Sissies trapping Dallas Christian after they inbounded the ball.

When Bridgeport did back off its full-court press, the Lady Chargers began to mount a run, narrowing the deficit to 15 points midway through the second quarter.

“We’ve got to do a better job of cutting off baseline, and a better job of bumping cutters,” Taylor said. “Team shell defense has got to get better for Stephenville. They do a lot of things well. And if we’re not where we need to be defensively we’ll be in trouble.”

Dallas Christian freshman guard Portia Adams led the Lady Chargers with 14 points. Tiffiney Vanloon added 11 points for Dallas Christian in the loss.
