Basketball: Boyd wins seventh straight

The Boyd Yellowjackets picked up their seventh straight win Tuesday, holding off Bellevue for a 59-54 victory.

Reuben Rodebaugh tossed in 17, including nine in the first half as Boyd opened up a 26-15 halftime lead.

Boyd built the lead to 13 with 42-29 going into the fourth.

Blake Rodgers finished with 15 and Connor Richardson 10.

Boyd will open District 8-3A play Tuesday against Paradise.

SLIDELL 54, VALLEY VIEW 33

Berto Hernandez and Shelby Johnson scored 15 apiece as the Slidell Greyhounds rolled to a 54-33 win over Valley View Tuesday.

Slidell took a double-digit lead in the first quarter with eight points from Johnson. The Greyhounds closed out the win with a 12-2 run.

Slidell (9-4) will start the defense of its 21-A title Tuesday against Midway.

ALVORD 57, PRAIRIE VALLEY 54

Tanner Petree drained four 3-pointers in the second half as the Alvord Bulldogs’ rallied for a 57-54 win over Prairie Valley Tuesday.

Petree finished with 12 points. Jayton Malone led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Alvord (8-4) trailed 24-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs hit six 3-pointers in the second half, including three in a 20-point third quarter.

SAGINAW 47, BRIDGEPORT 44

After a slow start, the Bridgeport Bulls went on a late scoring barrage Tuesday.

The Bulls (3-11) poured in 22 points in the final frame, but couldn’t catch Saginaw in a 47-44 loss.

“I’m very proud of how the guys competed. They played extremely hard against a great Saginaw team,” said Bridgeport coach Clayton Shipley. “The team is headed in the right direction. We just have to continue to get better every day.”

Andrew Horton finished with 21 points. Drew Carstens added 10 with seven rebounds.

VICTORY CHRISTIAN 46, MCKINNEY CORNERSTONE 45

With a strong second half, the Victory Christian Patriots took down McKinney Cornerstone 46-45 Tuesday.

Davis Shriver finished with 21 points. Jared McBride and Hunter McKee had nine points each.

Victory trailed 26-22 at halftime.
