Baseball: Texans win close pitchers’ duel to stay tied for district lead

Doger Gilliland outdueled Brewer’s Zane Whiteside in the Northwest Texans’ 3-1 victory Tuesday.

Gilliland struck out six and held Brewer to a run on five hits with one walk.

The win was the third straight for the Texans (17-8, 5-2) who are tied with Aledo for the District 6-5A lead.

Northwest took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Jarod Riggio doubled in a run and came home on a wild pitch.

Riggio went 2-for-3.

The Texans added a third run in the fifth on Cayde Ward’s groundout.
