Mother and son hit the books

This is not a letter to gripe about politics or to put somebody down. This is a letter of joy for me.

My grandson is a senior this year and has already been accepted to college in Kansas. He joined the Army Reserves midway during his junior year. He is receiving scholarships from the military and from the college that will see him through four years of college. How proud can a grandmother be?

There is more!

His mother, my daughter, who spent 20 years in the military, is going to college with him. It wasn’t her idea, but his. He thought she could use her GI Bill from the military, and she could go to college four years with him.

My daughter is 48 years old and has gone through some hard times. This will be a great opportunity for her, and that was the reason my grandson encouraged her to check into it.

The happiness I feel is my grandson starting a new life after high school and my daughter making a better future for herself!
