It is with great sadness and an acute sense of loss that we learn of the untimely passing of the 271st District’s Judge John Fostel.

For the past 20 years it was my honor and pleasure to know and work with Judge Fostel. He was a disciplined, diligent and learned man, and above all fair when handling cases. His knowledge of the law and his skill at cutting through nonsense were second to none. He had the respect of the State Bar, the community and those who were lucky enough to have worked with him, and his overwhelming victory in this last election proves it.

Judge Fostel’s wisdom within and without the courtroom will be greatly missed. It should also be known that he was a loving husband to wife Cathy, a devoted family man and an example to his community.

God bless Cathy Fostel and the Fostel family.
