A Bridgeport man pleaded guilty this week to sex crimes involving two underage girls and was sentenced to serve time in prison.

William Rex Burris

Court records show that William Rex Burris, 58, pleaded guilty to a first degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and a second degree felony charge of indecency with a child sexual contact. Visiting District Judge John Weeks sentenced Burris on Thursday to 23 years for the assault charge and 20 years for the indecency charge. The sentences will run concurrently.

The case had been set for trial next week.

The sexual assault took place in May of 2011 when the victim was 12 years old, court records indicate.

According to the arrest affidavit in the case, the female victim said Burris would take photos of her while she was in the shower, including crawling on the roof of the trailer to take a photo through the sky light above the shower.

The affidavit states that Burris “started grooming” the child at the age of 12 by having her give him a back rub, which then progressed to making the child watch pornography with him on his phone. Those actions then progressed to Burris giving the child a back rub and then to more overt sexual actions including touching the genitalia and sexual assault, the affidavit states.

Court records show the indecency with a child took place with a different victim, who was 7 at the time, in March of 2002, and included touching of the girl’s genitalia.

In addition to the prison sentence, Burris will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
