Bridgeport Economic Development Corp.’s first Manufacturing Day for high school students was Dec. 4.

Bridgeport students learned about jobs and careers that exist in the community and contribute to the local economy.

The group toured U.S. Ply and Hanson Aggregates, and County Judge J.D. Clark joined the students for lunch to discuss the importance of a skilled local workforce. He also issued a proclamation in support of Manufacturing Day.

EDC Executive Director Kevin Holzbog said the event showcased local job opportunities.

“Manufacturers that Bridgeport EDC is recruiting, as well as existing industry and recent project wins that are currently creating new jobs, are focused on workforce needs,” he said. “Manufacturing Day serves as an important step in our effort to create future skilled labor to accommodate our growing industries.”

Holzbog said the EDC looks forward to partnering with local industry leaders to help meet the needs of employers in the future.

A second Manufacturing Day is planned for the spring to introduce more local employers to students.
