After setting the Class of 2018’s graduation for May 23 at the University of North Texas in Denton last month, Boyd ISD trustees will revisit picking a site Monday.

Boyd ISD Superintendent Ted West said concerns were raised about moving the graduation to the UNT Coliseum for a 5 p.m. ceremony on a Monday evening, since that was the board’s decision in November.

“We’re going to put it back on the agenda and discuss it,” West said. “We’ll listen to all the ideas. The senior class’ parents voiced some concern that they didn’t have a voice. We’ll have a good discussion.”

Before choosing the Coliseum, which holds graduation for Decatur, Bridgeport and most Denton County schools, the district searched for alternatives.

“Most of the area schools go to the Super Pit (Coliseum). That venue is a little large for our needs, but there are not a lot of other options,” West said.

The district has used Yellowjacket Stadium in the past, utilizing the home stands. West said the district is on the verge of outgrowing the 2,000-seat capacity of the home stands.

He said they could look to reconfigure the ceremony and possibly also use the visitor side.

An issue that could still arise with using the football stadium is weather.

“Then it’s all contingent on the weather. You have concern with rain that time of year,” West said.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Boyd High School cafetorium. The meeting has been moved from the administration building to accommodate the jazz band and the recognition of the varsity volleyball team.
