An important member of the sheriff’s office went missing in October, and his whereabouts remain a mystery.

Rayco, a K-9 officer, disappeared during an overnight storm Oct. 22. High winds damaged his kennel, and Rayco apparently ran off from his home not far from Weatherford College Wise County.

Throughout the next week, a thorough search of the area was performed both on foot and by air. Several local citizens also volunteered to look for the 4-year-old Dutch Shepherd.

The sheriff’s office responded to numerous calls about possible sightings, but the dogs were not Rayco. No trace of Rayco has ever been found.

Crime Stoppers of Wise County is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for tips leading to the safe return of Rayco. Anyone who sees Rayco or knows of someone who may have taken him in should call the sheriff’s office at 940-627-5971 or the Crime Stoppers numbers, 800-643-TIPS(8477) or 940-627-TIPS. Calls will be accepted 24 hours a day.

Rayco was used by the sheriff’s office for narcotics detection and apprehension. He had been with the department since May of 2015.
