BRIDGEPORT

OILFIELD LUNCHEON – Luke Legate will provide an update on the oil industry in North Texas at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Weatherford College Wise County, 5180 U.S. 380. Cost is $12 per person. RSVP to Shelby or Marybeth, 940-683-2076.

DECATUR

PAINT THE TOWN PINK – Paint the Town Pink, celebrating breast cancer survivors and remembering those lost, is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Decatur square. There will be a bake sale, raffles, special promotions with local businesses, and a pink line ceremony. All proceeds benefit Mary’s Gift and Women’s Services at Wise Health System. GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Decatur Lions Club and Decatur Boy Scout Troop 121 is having their 13th annual golf tournament Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Decatur Country Club. Registration for the four-player scramble is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9. Cost is $60 per person, which includes lunch, green fee and cart. Mulligans will be sold. There will be contests for hole-in-one, closest-to-the-pin and longest drive, plus door prizes. CHAMBER AUCTION – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce dinner and auction is 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Decatur Conference Center. This year’s theme is Halloween Under the Big Top. Come dressed in Halloween or circus attire for the costume contest. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Austin Allsup, one of the top eight performers on season 11 of “The Voice” will perform. RSVP by calling 940-627-3107.

RHOME

SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Applications for Rhome/South Wise Spirit of Christmas are available at Rhome City Hall, 261 N. School Road. The program provides toys and clothing for economically disadvantaged children. Applications should be returned by Friday, Nov. 10.

VETERANS GROUP – The Rhome Veterans Group has planned the following events: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13, movie night at Rhome Public Library, RSVP requested; Oct. 14, booth at Newark Cruisin’ Days; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. coat and blanket drive distribution, Newark City Hall; 10 a.m. Oct. 28, business meeting; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 coat and blanket drive distribution at Chico City Hall; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4, coat and blanket drive distribution at Alvord City Hall; noon Nov. 9, freeze dried food tasting party at Rhome Senior Citizens Building; RSVP requested.

WISE COUNTY

VETERANS PICNIC – The Annual Veterans Picnic sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter in Decatur is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Women’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Veterans and family members are invited to the free event, which will include barbecue, a silent auction and sweet walk.

FAITH BRIEFS

LORD’S ACRE – The First United Methodist Church of Boyd will have its annual Lord’s Acre Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 14. The festival will include games and activities for children, homemade baked goods, crafts, vendor booths and a flea market. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office mobile unit will be available to tour. A homemade turkey dinner will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with to-go plates available. There will be a live auction at 1:30 p.m. There will be a Carter blood drive 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the event.

KINGDOM MEN – The First Baptist Church of Decatur is hosting Kingdom Men with Dennis Swanber 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Decatur Conference Center. For tickets, call 940-627-3235. Donations will be accepted for Warmth for Wise, Keeping Children Warm in Wise County.

OBSTACLE COURSE – Wise County Cowboy Church will have arena and trail obstacle courses Saturday, Oct. 28. Sign-ups start at 8 with riding events until noon. Chili will be served for lunch, and there will be a truck or treat at 5 p.m. Email jeanne00_anderson@yahoo.com.

UGANDAN CHOIR – The Ugandan Kids Choir will perform 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport. The choir is a ministry of Childcare Worldwide, which has been dedicated to empowering children in the developing world since 1981. Through child sponsorship, Childcare Worldwide brings hope to children in need by providing them with an education that will set them up for future employment and break the cycle of poverty in their lives. BULLS AND BARRELS – Wise County Cowboy Church has bull riding and a barrel expo every Thursday at 7 p.m. Cost for bull riding is $10 (all the bulls you can ride) with a $30 jackpot. Cost for barrels is $3. The church is at 2070 Old Denton Road, off U.S. 380.
