ALVORD

STUDENT HOLIDAY – AISD will not hold class Monday, Oct. 9. It is a teacher professional development day.

OPEN HOUSE – Alvord High School ag and FFA will have open house 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9. Fall bedding plants will be available for purchase. FFA Friends will meet following the open house.

FFA DUES – Eighth grade through high school ag students need to pay FFA dues – $20 – to ag teachers.

REMIND – Community members can find information on the Remind smartphone application to get updates on news and events from high school Principal Michael Thurman under the news and events tab on the district website. An option for text message updates for those without smartphones is also available.

BOYD

STUDENT HOLIDAY – BISD will not hold class Monday, Oct. 9. It is a teacher professional development day.

FREE AND REDUCED MEALS – Free and reduced meal applications are available in English and Spanish on the district website.

TESTING TIPS – A list of tips for juniors and seniors preparing for the ACT and SAT are available on the high school website.

BRIDGEPORT

BULLS BOOK BUS – Bridgeport Elementary’s Bulls Book Bus will be at every home game for younger students to enjoy reading during the games.

STUDENT HOLIDAY – Bridgeport ISD will not hold classes on Friday, Oct. 6, and Monday, Oct. 9.

PTO CARNIVAL – Bridgeport Intermediate will have its PTO Carnival 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

CHICO

HOMECOMING PARADE – The Chico homecoming parade is 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, starting at the football field parking lot. Pre-k and kindergarten students will be released at 11:45 a.m., and the rest of the district will release at noon. Buses will run at 12:05 p.m. To be part of the parade, contact the Chico Booster Club or one of its members.

YEARBOOK ORDER – Yearbooks are available for $40, or $45 with personalization. Ordering information is on the district website.

DECATUR

FIELDS OF FAITH – DHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host Fields of Faith Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Eagle Stadium. The free event starts with dinner at 6 p.m. The Eli Simon Band will play.

DHS MUSICAL – Tickets for “Godspell” are available online on Renee Buchanan’s teacher page. Cost is $7 in advance, $10 at the door. The production is 7 p.m. nightly Oct. 5-7 at the Decatur High School theater.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT – DHS Junior Class will host a family movie night featuring “Beetlejuice” at the DHS practice field (track) Saturday, Oct. 14 (Rainout plan – indoor practice facility at DHS). Pre-activities, including games and a costume contest, will begin at 7 p.m. Movie starts at 8:30. Presale tickets are $7 for ages 10 and under and $10 for adults. A family four-pack is $30 (not available at door). Concessions will be available. Tickets can be purchased from any junior class officer or parent or Mrs. Smith in the first floor DHS office. GO-FORCE – The University of North Texas’ Go-Force will be on the DHS campus 9 a.m. to noon every Thursday this semester. They are here to assist all grade levels in college and career planning. Make an appointment in the first floor office.

PARADISE

COMMUNITY INPUT NEEDED – Paradise School Board is asking community members to fill out a survey about qualifications and characteristics they’d like to see in their new superintendent. The questionnaire is available at pisd.net.

PROJECT GRADUATION – Paradise Project Graduation will meet 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the high school cafeteria to discuss the fundraiser at the Fall Festival and the upcoming 50/50 raffle fundraiser.

BINGO NIGHT – The Emeralds drill team will host a bingo night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Bridgeport Community Center. Three-card sheets are available for $1, and there will be food and drinks to purchase.

DANCE CAMP – The Emeralds drill team will host Lil’ Rhinestones Dance Camp for girls age 4 through fifth grade from 3:45 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13. Participants will learn a fun routine to perform that night at the football game.
