Winona June Cox, 81, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 in Bridgeport.

Private graveside service was Oct. 17 at Chico Cemetery with the Rev. Randy James officiating.

Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport handled arrangements.

Pallbearers were Justin Cox, Jacob Cox, Steven Cox, Jason Cox, Jesse Cox, Colby Moore and Nick Jones.

Winona was born Jan. 23, 1936, in Crafton to Gus and Opal May (Warden) Richey. She married Elmer Cox Dec. 22, 1956, in Chico.

Winona earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of North Texas. She was co-owner of Chico Limestone and a retired supervisor for Texas Instruments.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Stevie Cox; grandsons Clint Cox, and Sammy Smith; and brother Buddy Richey.

She is survived by daughter Gina Cox Schaefer and husband, Steven; sons Eric Cox and wife, Brenda, Van Cox and wife, Sheila, Chris Cox and wife, Katherine, Shay Cox and partner, Matt Newman; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include sisters Janet Myers and husband, Bill, and Anna Hand and husband, Jimmy; brother Bobby Richey and wife, Francis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
