E.C. Brock Jr.

Ernest Clifford (E.C.) Brock Jr., 73, of Tolar (Justin), died Monday, May 8, 2017.

Funeral was May 12 at Triple Cross Cowboy Church in Granbury with burial at Bluebonnet Cemetery in Colleyville.

E.C. left a legacy of love for all that knew him. He spent his early years building metal buildings, playing semi-pro volleyball and fast-pitch softball. He coached little league baseball and girls softball. He taught school for 25 years at Northwest ISD.

EC was a member of the North Texas High School Rodeo Association for 40-plus years. He picked up broncs for more than 35 years, hauled bulldogging horses and hazed for hundreds of up-and-coming rodeo stars. E.C. served eight years on the NTHSRA board of directors, two of which he served as president. His favorite saying was, “The most important things in life are family, good friends and great horses, and not necessarily in that order.”

E.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lela Brock; and sister Stella Sparks.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Smith Brock; children Brenda Moe and husband, Mike, Sandy Smith, Les Brock and wife, Rilla, and Kelly Pickens and husband, Scott; and grandchildren Melinda Nolen and husband, Chase, Buck Mattern, Emily Matlock and husband, Colton, Kristin Smith, Taylor Brock, Bailey Brock, Raelynn Brock, Les Brock Jr. (Bub) and Lela Pickens.

Other survivors include 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Vertalee Coleman and husband, John, Ellen Lovett and Jean Morrow; and numerous nieces, nephews and adoptees.

E.C. believed every child deserves a chance. Memorial donations may be made to the NTHSRA Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 79500, Saginaw, TX 76179.
