Alvord junior Kaely Beaver admittedly didn’t have her best day Thursday in the shot put ring.

It was good enough to land her the gold medal at the District 10-2A meet.

Beaver won the event with a toss of 34-1.

“I threw really bad,” Beaver said. “Last year, I beat my record of 36. I’ve thrown 37 this year but not at a meet. I only threw 34.”

Last year, Beaver earned a silver medal at district, area and regionals. The runner-up finish at the 2A Region II meet earned her a trip to the state meet.

“Hopefully, if I practice, I can beat my record and [get back to state],” Beaver said.

She will compete at the 9/10-2A meet Wednesday in Springtown.

JOHNSON BREAKS RECORD

Chico sprinter Kalan Johnson broke the school record in the 200 and won the 10-2A gold medal.

Johnson clocked a 23.11.

“I had one of the best starts I’ve ever had,” Johnson said.

“This means a lot my senior year. I couldn’t ask for a better way to end.”

Johnson heads to the 9/10-2A meet.

“I’m sitting third or fourth. But I haven’t had anyone push me yet,” Johnson said.
