Softball: Hilton leads TSWA picks – Walterscheid lands on third team

Honors continue to roll in for Northwest designated hitter Tara Hilton.

With her powerful bat, Hilton earned a spot on the Texas Sportswriters Association second team.

Hilton batted .527 and drove in 40 runs with an on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of 1.289 for the Lady Texans. The junior was named first-team 5-6A and to the All-Wise team.

On the 3A squad, Paradise senior outfielder Darla Walterscheid earned third team.

Returning from a knee injury that forced her to miss most of her junior year, Walterscheid blasted four home runs with 31 RBIs. She hit .466, earning first-team 9-3A and All-Wise.

Several Wise County players received honorable mention, including Alvord senior catcher Reagan Guthrie, Decatur freshman pitcher Reagan Chism, Bridgeport junior pitcher Hailey Hollingsworth and Paradise sophomore third baseman Brooklynn Davis.

Guthrie, the 12-2A and Wise County Defensive Player of the Year, batted .435 with 28 RBIs and posted a .989 fielding percentage.

Chism, the 8-4A MVP and Wise County Newcomer of the Year, struck out 286 hitters with a 2.41 ERA. She also hit .427 with 22 RBIs.

Hollingsworth, the Wise County Offensive Player of the Year, batted .690 with an OPS of 1.693. The 8-4A Pitcher of the Year went 3-3 with a 2.745 ERA.

Davis, a first-team 9-3A and All-Wise pick, drove in 40 runs and hit .446.
