With two outs of a tied game in the bottom of the seventh inning, an illegal pitch call brought an end to the Bridgeport Sissies season.

Pitcher Hailey Hollingsworth dropped the ball in her backswing and was called for an illegal pitch, allowing the game-winning run to score from third in Alvarado’s 6-5 victory.

Bridgeport coach Ruben Garza said the homeplate umpire “made the worst call I’ve seen in 21 years of coaching. He calls an illegal pitch allowing the runners to advance and end the game and series.”

Garza said the ball should have remained alive.

Hollingsworth started the game with a bang for the Sissies with an inside-the-park home run. Alvarado responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.

Bridgeport fought back to tie the game in the top of the sixth with RBI-singles from Kensley Turner, Jillian Hagar and Alyssa Fry.

Bridgeport ended the season at 12-13.
