Uriel Betancourt found the back of the net in the second half to give the Bridgeport Bulls a victory Friday in their inaugural game.

Betancourt and Efrain DeLuna scored the Bulls’ goals in the 2-1 win over Argyle.

“It was a fantastic start to the inaugural season of soccer for the Bridgeport Bulls,” said Bridgeport coach Ben Parks.

The Bulls fell behind 1-0. Juan Martinez-Moran then faced only two more shots, making saves.

“Nick Stauffer, Luis Cruz and Giovanni Martinez did a fantastic job all night of shutting down Argyle’s offense,” Parks said.

Betancourt made three tackles.

DeLuna leveled the score at one with a goal in the first half before Betancourt punched in the gamewinner.

Parks said after a hesitant start, the Bulls played more assertive and controlled possession.

“Alex Martinez, Uriel Betancourt and Miguel Olmos dominated the middle of the field while Juan Amador and Jesus Aguilar caused problems for Argyle’s defense with their constant running down the flanks,” Parks said.

Bridgeport will head to the Fort Worth Brewer Tournament Thursday.

NORTH FORNEY 6, DECATUR 5
GREENVILLE 3, DECATUR 1

The Decatur Eagles dropped a pair of matches over the weekend at the Princeton Tournament.

North Forney edged the Eagles 6-5. Greenville pulled out a 3-1 decision.

“We’re getting better and in better shape with each game,” said Decatur coach Wes Campbell. “We’re competing, fighting, and have our chances to win against 5A teams.”

Juan Tapia scored three goals at the tournament. Jaime Prado, Brett Bean and Armando Benitez each scored one.

Decatur took on Carter Riverside Tuesday and will play in the Brewer Tournament starting Thursday.

NORTHWEST 0, BIRDVILLE 0
NORTHWEST 1, LAKE RIDGE 1
NORTHWEST 0, ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 0

The Northwest Lady Texans pulled out three ties over the weekend at the Richland Tournament.

“My team played well this weekend and put us in a good position as we build towards district,” said Northwest coach Becca Willett.

Tayler Schott scored the Lady Texans’ goal against Lake Ridge off an assist by Adrienne Wood.

MINERAL WELLS 6, BRIDGEPORT 0

After a strong first half, the Bridgeport Sissies couldn’t stay with Mineral Wells Friday, falling 6-0 in the program’s first game.

Mineral Wells scored twice off corner kicks in the second half and added three other goals.

Bridgeport limited Mineral Wells to just one goal in the first half off a direct kick.

“I am very proud of our first game,” said Bridgeport coach John Tuggle. “Mineral Wells had to play hard to win. Our Sissies were pressing hard, being very coachable and had two good shots on goal, defended well and were not satisfied with their play. I like seeing our Sissies upset at losing. This is a sign of being a winner. We’ll get there.”
