Rodeo: Stuart ropes top-15 spot

Through four performances at the International Finals Rodeo, Bridgeport’s Brett Stuart and partner Tyson Thompson are tied for seventh place with a run of 6.3 seconds.

Stuart and Thompson were 1.2 seconds behind the leaders Trenton Brown and Clay Green at the Shawnee, Okla., rodeo.

More than 900 contestants from 34 states as well as Australia and Canada are competing in the rodeo for more than $200,000 in prize money.

The top 15 in each event will make Friday’s finals and compete for half the prize purse.

Stuart is tied for 12th in steer wrestling with a run of 5.8. He’s 35th in calf roping.

Several other Wise County cowboys and cowgirls are competing.

Through three runs, Paradise’s Katelyn Melvin was 24th in barrel racing. Alvord’s Mikayla Cox was 45th and Boyd’s Jordan Shelby 67th.

Melvin entered Tuesday 25th in pole bending. Aurora’s Alexis Barfield was 42nd and Cox 78th.

Melvin was just outside the top 15 in breakaway roping, tied for 19th with a run of 3.5.

Bridgeport’s Darcy Podzemny is tied for 25th in goat tying. Carsyn Bailey of Paradise made a run of 10.4 for 45th.

Through three performances, Decatur’s Chase Wilson was 29th in steer wrestling.

Alvord’s Tanner Baker and partner Garrett Morrow were 48th in team roping.
