Rodeo: Steer wrestlers contend at state finals

After the first two rounds at the Texas High School Rodeo Finals in Abilene, three Wise County steer wrestlers are in the top 15.

Bridgeport’s Weston Podzemny made runs of 11.03 and 8.46 in his two rounds to reach sixth place heading into the short-go.

Decatur’s Chase Wilson was two spots back in eighth after runs of 7.39 and 16.63.

Bridgeport’s Brett Stuart found himself in 14th with a time of 106.36.

Stuart is in second in team roping after two rounds with a total time of 12.430. The pairing of Decatur’s Caleb Butler and Podzemny turned in times of 8.25 and 4.73 for third. Ty Meals of Paradise is in eighth with a total of 18.27 over his two attempts with David Dougherty of Gainesville.

In barrel racing, Decatur’s Shaylee Hindman is in fourth place after the first two rounds. Hindman made runs of 17.554 and 16.409.

Alexis Barfield of Aurora is in 12th in pole bending with runs of 21.376 and 20.977.

The finals will wrap up on Saturday.
