Powerlifting: McAlister finishes sixth

Bridgeport’s Dillon McAlister headed into the Texas High School Powerlifting Association championships ranked eighth in the Division 2 165-pound class.

The Bridgeport senior moved up two spots to finish sixth at the state meet, lifting 1,215 pounds. He came just 35 pounds from securing the fifth-place medal.

“He managed to finish this season second in the region out of 68 lifters and sixth in the state out of 335 lifters,” said Bridgeport coach Davis McAlister. “That is a tremendous accomplishment and something to be very proud of.”

McAlister finished with a bench press of 245, squat of 470 and deadlift of 500.

Decatur’s Angel Garza took 13th in the 132-pound class, lifting 920. He squatted 355, benched 185 and pulled 380 on deadlift.

Paradise’s Cody Holoway and Tanner Edwards finished 10th in their Division 3 weight classes.

Holoway lifted 1,365 pounds in the 242-pound division. He had a squat of 550, bench press of 290 and deadlift of 525.

Edwards tallied 1,535 in the 275-pound class. He recorded a squat of 630, bench press of 390 and deadlift of 515.
