Powerlifting: Lifters make bids for state

Area girls powerlifters will make their bids for state this weekend.

Bridgeport and Decatur lifters will take part in the Region 6 Division 2 meet Friday at Princeton. The Division 3 meet for Paradise, Chico, Alvord and Boyd will be Saturday at Bowie.

The top two lifters in each weight class at the regional meets will advance to the state meet March 18-19 in Corpus Christi.

Decatur will have five lifters participating in the regional meet – Caitlin Butler (97), Kourtney Pettigrew (132), Kara Harper (181), Marissa Bias (220-plus) and Jaycie Capasso (220-plus). Butler and Harper are ranked sixth in their classes. Bias is seventh.

Bridgeport has several lifters in the top 10 in the region in their classes – Kenya Gomez (97), Yorleny Macias (105), Jennifer Martinez (114), Mady Taylor (114), Allison Raby (123), Julie Salazar (148) and Sindi Ortiz (165).

Paradise’s twins Kyndall and Carressa McCasland are at the top of their classes entering the weekend. Kyndall is the top lifter in the 105s at 595 and Carressa second in the 114s at 620.

Chico’s Jessica Redwine is third in the 220-plus category with a total of 835. Alvord’s Haley Roberds in seventh in the class.

Chico’s Ana Rodriguez is ranked fifth in 97-pound class. Haley Pollard is fourth in the 132s. Ayesha Parr is ninth in the 165s.

Alvord’s Natalie Hofsiss enters regionals second in the 181s. Makayla Martin is sixth in the 198s. Allison Ricketts is seventh in the 220s.
