Powerlifting: Lifters head west for state finals

Three Wise County lifters will head west this weekend to compete in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association championships.

The state meet is Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Decatur’s Angel Garza will compete in the Division 2 132-pound class. Garza finished second at the Region 6 meet, lifting 935. He had a squat of 355, bench press of 190 and deadlift of 390.

Bridgeport’s Dillon McAlister will lift in the 165-pound division. He tallied 1,250 pounds at regionals with lifts of 450 on squat, 265 on bench press and 535 on deadlift.

Paradise’s Tanner Edwards is the county’s lone Division 3 lifter. He will compete in the 275-pound class. He compiled a total of 1,560 at regionals – 630 on squat, 400 on bench press and 530 on deadlift.
