Powerlifting: Lifters aim for region titles

Decatur’s Payton McAlister will head into Friday’s Region 6, Division 2 powerlifting meet in Chico as the top-ranked lifter in the 181-pound class.

The Decatur junior has a total of 1,230 and will try to lock down a state berth.

The Division 2 meet is Friday and the Division 3 lifters will compete Saturday.

Two other Decatur lifters are ranked in the top two in their classes. Marc Lara is second with a tally of 895 in the 132s. Brandon Garza is second in the 165s at 1,215.

Angel Garza and Terry Lee Hogan enter the weekend ranked third in the 132s and 275s.

Bridgeport’s Dillon McAlister is third behind Brandon Garza in the 165s. Shawn Wheat and Chance Pierce are ranked fourth in their divisions.

Paradise’s Darian Sotomi is ranked second in the 148s in Division 3 with a total of 1,140. Cody Holoway and Tanner Edwards are third in the 242s and 275s.

Chico’s Cameron Starnes is second in the 220s.
