Powerlifting: Four Chico lifters move on to state

Four Chico girls will be heading to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association championships in Corpus Christi later this month.

Ana Rodriguez, Jenny Martinez, Haley Pollard and Jessica Redwine booked state spots as the 2A representatives at the Region 6, Division 3 meet Saturday in Bowie.

The state meet is March 18-19 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.

Rodriguez was the top 2A lifter in the 97-pound class with her total of 465. She had lifts of 175 on squat, 85 on bench press and 205 on deadlift.

Martinez’ total of 570 earned the top 2A spot in the 123-pound class.

Pollard had the second-best 2A total in the 132s with her 680.

Redwine earned a state spot with her total of 865 in the 220-pound class.

ALVORD PAIR EARN STATE BIDS

Alvord’s Natalie Hofsiss and Makayla Martin earned bids to the state meet Saturday.

Hofsiss finished second in the 181-pound division, lifting a total of 830 pounds.

She pulled 350 pounds on deadlift to secure the state berth.

Makayla Martin recorded the best 2A total in the 198s with her tally of 750.

MCCASLANDS TAKE SECOND, THIRD

Kyndall McCasland brought home second place and earned a state spot in the 105-pound class.

She tallied 585 pounds to beat third-place by 30 pounds.

Her sister Carressa took third in the 114s with a total of 625. She finished 10 pounds behind Leonard’s Destiny Strain.
