Starting her second round of the 8-4A tournament on the No. 13 proved to be a good omen for Bridgeport’s Lexi Read.

The Bridgeport senior drained a 30-foot putt from just off the green to jumpstart her round at The Resort Tuesday. She finished with a 79 to capture her fourth straight district individual medal.

“I was off the green and putted it in from 30 feet. It got me going,” Read said about the opening hole.

“I played good. I really played good this whole week.”

Read fired a 2-over 74 in the opening round Monday at Runaway Bay. She won the tournament by 31 strokes over teammate Brooke Irion.

“This means a lot. I played good this week, and it gives me good momentum going into next week,” Read said.

Read and the Bridgeport Sissies, who won the team title with a 728, will move on to play in the Class 4A Region I tournament at Shadow Hills in Lubbock April 13-14.

Read hit the ball consistently off the tee. On the long par-5 8th, she split the fairway to set up a par.

“I hit the ball really good. I really couldn’t ask to hit it better,” Read said. “I really need to work on my putting.”

Irion, a two-time state qualifier, shot rounds of 86 and 98 for a two-round total of 184.

“It was little rough. I played decent,” she said. “The wind was pulling the ball.”

Bridgeport’s Katie Hudson finished third with a 189, after rounds of 93 and 96.

Abbi Hatton was fourth with a 202. She followed up an opening-round 84 with a 118.

Ashlie Lennard hit 249 with rounds of 116 and 133.

Bridgeport beat second-place Decatur by 208 strokes.

“We’re excited about regionals. Hopefully we can make it back to state,” Irion said.

Decatur fired 936 as a team.

Sarah Cruse turned in rounds of 103 and 106 for 209. Madeleine Semmelman shot 108 and 131 for 239. Autumn Fuller finished at 115 and 125 for 240. Abby Grimes hit 115 and 133 for 248. Corley Blount shot 130 and 137 for 267.
