For the past four years, the Decatur Eagles have ruled their links in their respective districts.

Monday, the Eagles will begin their quest for a fifth straight league title at the 8-4A championships. The opening round will be held at Runaway Bay at 9 a.m. Monday. The final round will be at The Resort.

The top two teams from the district tournament will advance to regionals.

Throughout the fall and spring, Decatur has posted solid results led by senior Drew Jones. The Texas signee is bidding for a fourth straight individual league title and trip to state.

“Drew has been Drew,” said Decatur coach Fernando Escobar. “But this year, he’s took on the role of leader. He’s worked hard in the weight room and looks great.”

Bryce Elder will be playing the second spot and Cade Lamirand as the No. 3. Mason Hudson is fourth and Hayden Bennett fifth.

“It’s been good to have everyone back after basketball,” Escobar said. “Cade and Bryce have played well. We have a good core of five good players.”

Escobar said his second five players could challenge for the second regional bid.

“If four of those guys are on, we could get two out,” he said.

Bridgeport coach Alan Green said Ty Reed and Blake Boyd have played solid this spring.

“Ty has been working really hard on his game and has a lot of confidence,” Green said. “Blake put up his best numbers early in the year.”

Green said the overall team needs to play more consistent. Cole Barton, Brazier Talley and Alex Winter played in the Bulls last tournament at Robson Ranch.

In the girls tournament, the Bridgeport Sissies will be looking to defend their district title behind the dynamic duo of Lexi Read and Brooke Irion. The pair finished first and second at Sugar Tree and top five at Robson Ranch.

Abbi Hatton and Katie Hudson have posted consistent scores this spring with Ashlie Lennard showing steady improvement.

“I’ve been proud of the way the girls have come out and practiced and prepared the best they can,” Green said.
