The Decatur Eagles wasted no time jumping on Castleberry in the District 8-4A opener Friday.

Decatur (17-6, 1-0) opened the game on a 20-4 run and never looked back in a 71-28 victory.

“The first three quarters we played really good,” said Decatur coach Drew Coffman.

“Now, it’s an eight-game season. You win and move on.”

The Eagles took on Bridgeport in a showdown of top 20 teams in 4A Tuesday. Decatur heads to Springtown Friday.

Six quick points from guard Cade Lamirand were part of the Eagles’ 20-point opening frame. Lamirand finished with 14 points.

Mason Hicks led all scorers with 18. He had seven in the second quarter as Decatur opened up a 38-10 halftime lead.

Parker Hicks finished with 14.
