The Chico Dragons have a new coach to lead them onto the floor next season.

Mark Kyle accepted the boys basketball job this week. He spent last season at Anson.

Kyle, a 26-year coaching veteran, said he liked the location of Chico, which is between his daughters in Fort Worth and Wichita Falls.

“I really liked the proximity to our daughters. Then after I talked with the athletic director, Lane Wilson, he was easy-going and seemed like a guy I wanted to work for,” Kyle said.

Kyle, a Central Texas native, previously spent nine years at Bangs, coaching basketball and football. He’s served as the head football coach in Harper.

“He’s got an impressive record and is a good coach,” Wilson said. “He’s got a lot of good experience and will also help with football and track.”

Kyle takes over a Dragons basketball team that struggled last season under Patrick Sluga. Chico went winless in 11-2A after some early season success. The Dragons won the Perrin Tournament.

Chico will return its top two scorers – Cameron Weatherly and Jerod Blanks.
