Lindsey Thorpe hit a free throw in the final second to give the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets a stunning 56-55 upset win over the fifth-ranked Bowie Lady Jackrabbits.

Thorpe finished with a game-high 31 points. She scored 13 in the fourth quarter as Boyd outscored Bowie 20-13.

Boyd trailed by 10 early in the fourth, 48-38. Boyd then went on an 18-7 finishing run. The Lady Yellowjackets went 12-for-16 from the free-throw line in the fourth.

“We played the entire 32 minutes without ever giving up,” said Boyd coach Erica Warner. “We came in with a game plan and we stuck to it. We got down 10 and the girls kept fighting. It took the little things to win and tonight we did that.”

Thorpe hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half to keep Boyd within a point, 26-25, at halftime.

Bowie opened the lead to 42-36 in the third with 3-pointers from River Romine and Henslee Ogle.

Romine finished with 13. Courtney Brady had 20 for Bowie.

Boyd’s Kayleigh Pappajohn scored nine points. Karlyn Kinsey and Kassiddy Lester chipped in six points each.
