Paradise and Bowie entered Friday night even at the top of the 9-3A girls standings. Through the first 16 minutes, they remained that way.

In the first two minutes of the third quarter, Bowie provided the separation between the two, going on an 11-0 run. Bowie went on for the 41-28 home victory to sweep the season series and put a virtual lock on the 9-3A title with three games to play.

“It killed us. We held them to 17 in the first half and they have 11 in the first two minutes of the third,” said Paradise coach Kevin Pope. “That was the difference in the game – the 11-0 run.”

Paradise (21-6) fell to 9-2 in district. It can lock up the league’s second seed with a win in its final three games.

“Winning district would’ve been the icing on the cake,” said Paradise senior Taylor Richards. “We’re just wanting to get to the playoffs.”

Richards led the Lady Panthers with 11 points. Amber French added six.

Paradise managed only nine points after halftime, shooting 3-for-15 from the field. After Richards’ 3-pointer stopped Bowie’s 11-0 run to start the second half, Madi Horne scored on the next possession to get Paradise back within four, 28-24.

Paradise then went scoreless the final 4:35 of the quarter as Bowie put together a 6-0 spurt to take a 34-24 lead.

“They came out on fire [in the third] and we didn’t,” Richards said. “We were missing shots and couldn’t meet our screens. We need to work on getting open.”

Bowie worked the clock in the fourth, limiting the two teams to eight combined field-goal attempts.

“They are a good team. They haven’t been ranked in the top 10 all year for no reason,” Pope said. “Colby [Davis] does a good job. This is a tough place to play.

“For 30 minutes, we were just as good as they were.”

Paradise jumped out to a 7-2 lead and led 9-8 after one quarter.

Bowie’s Courtney Brady scored five quick points to start the second quarter to put the Lady Jackrabbits up. Brady had all nine points for Bowie in the frame and finished with 15.

Addy Cook, who had all eight Bowie points in the first, matched Brady for the game-high at 15.

Paradise closed the half on a 6-2 run that included Richards’ layup with three seconds remaining to take a 19-17 lead.

That would be Paradise’s final lead.
