Baseball: Eagles shut out pair – Decatur blank Sanger, Kennedale

The Decatur pitching staff built some momentum heading into the start of District 8-4A play Tuesday with a pair of shutouts Friday and Saturday.

The staff hurled 14 scoreless innings in the 3-0 win over Sanger and 8-0 victory against Kennedale.

Bryce Elder limited Sanger to four hits in his 91-pitch, seven-inning gem Friday. He struck out seven and walked two.

Trey Penny collected a RBI and scored a run in the win.

Against Kennedale, Derek Potts worked six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Jesus Gam worked a scoreless inning in relief, giving up two hits.

Decatur scored all eight runs in the bottom of the second. Gam and Penny singled in runs before Michael Hicks doubled in two.

AJ Johnson finished 3-for-4. Penny added a pair of hits in four at-bats.

Decatur (11-5-1) started 8-4A play at Castleberry Tuesday.
