Apathy wins 2016

My candidate, Hillary Clinton, spoke to her supporters about staying engaged because America and its entire people are worth it.

I have many friends and associates who feel that the country’s nightmare and the fallout of the Trump regime has yet to be understood or felt. The country that showed itself on Nov. 8 makes us feel disgusted, shameful and outraged and most definitely is not the country we all love.

I personally can’t help but feel the outrage when I watch neighbors and friends turn their Trump/Pence “Make America Great Again” election signs into a proud display of the Confederate Battle Flag on equal standing with our state and national flags, especially here in Wise County.

I am a civic-minded person and most certainly think I have done my part in this process, but I know I can and should do more and so should all you readers. Hate is not the opposite of love; apathy is.

When 30 to 45 percent of the country or county didn’t bother to vote, apathy won. I do not accept that these non-voters live in a bubble and didn’t know there was an election going on. These people took an intelligent and purposeful disinterest on something they felt had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on their existence.

It will be under a Trump regime that these apathetic voters will see his policies most certainly will, and hopefully they won’t be so dismissive the next time an election is taking place. Albert Einstein once said that the world won’t be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them and do nothing.

I never have been able to understand why contrary or argumentative became an ugly word with derogatory feelings. We who disagree with the policies and appointments of the new Trump regime in a respectful, but firm, way should not be ashamed of how we feel. We should speak up and speak out. Run for office. Know your elected officials and what they stand for and how they vote, not just if they are Democrat or Republican. Volunteer in your local civic organizations and most of all, whenever an election occurs, from the courthouse to the White House – VOTE!

    TRACEY,

While many did not vote, many were FORCED to not vote or vote for 3rd party candidates because of the dishonest and underhanded actions of the DNC!

For Me Bernie Sanders was and still is the candidate that should have been up against Trump, and would have won hands down! Yet the DNC unethically and illegally attempted to forced Hillary down our throats, how did that work out!!!

For many of us for to long we have been forced to vote for the lesser of two evils, or the next in line as well as continuing the dynasties that have been in power for decades! “Millions” refused to be manipulated any more, that is why the DNC helped elect this disgrace we now have upon us!

We had a chance of a life time to elect an honest man who has spent his whole life fighting for our country and “ALL” it’s people! The DNC decided to cut his throat for their own self serving beliefs and agenda and the voters and those in the party could be damned! Sadly the DNC lost all creditability and is guilty of helping elect this disgrace we have now!!! IMHO
