BRIDGEPORT

SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED – Wise Health System Bridgeport Auxiliary will award five $1,000 scholarships to continuing education students, high school students, employees and children of employees of Wise Health System and individuals with a Wise County address. EGGSTRAVAGANZA – The city of Bridgeport’s annual Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt and Spring Carnival is 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave. The egg hunt starts at 2 p.m., and there will be games, candy, inflatables, face painting and balloon animals. DECATUR

WISE HOOPS – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club’s 14th Annual Wise Hoops Midnight Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is Friday, April 1, at the Multipurpose Building at McCarroll Middle School. Play begins at 5 p.m. Registration is $110 per youth team and $150 per adult team. Registration closes March 30. Teams who register by March 24 receive a free T-shirt for each player. CRAFT GROUP – The Decatur Public Library’s beading group has turned into an open crafts group. Bring any type of craft project to the library’s meeting room 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and work with a great group of crafters who are eager to help. Call 940-393-0290.

SHOT CLINIC – The Texas Department of State Health Services will have an immunization clinic 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the First Baptist Church, 1200 Preskitt Rd., in Decatur. Those eligible include American Indians, Alaskan natives, underinsured, non-insured or Medicaid patients. Bring your child’s shot record and Medicaid card, if applicable. PARADISE

GOLF TOURNAMENT – The 2nd Annual Paradise Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is Saturday, May 21, at the Decatur Golf Club, 211 Country Club Rd. Cost is $400 for a four-person team, which includes a golf cart, meals, goody bag and two drink tickets per golfer. Cost for individuals is $100. They will be placed with a team. Registration is 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9. RHOME

VETERANS ORGANIZATION – A new group is forming in Rhome for spouses, dependents and others who want to support local veterans. Rhome Veterans is a non-profit organization “dedicated to serving city and area veterans and their families in times of crisis and with educational needs, while promoting fellowship among veterans by helping with civic events and projects.” The group meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Saturday of each month at Rhome Dairy Queen. Deborah BeCraft is acting commander.

MOVIE TIME – The Rhome Public Library will show a movie for school-age children 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Rhome Community Center. Bring a blanket, sleeping bag, towel or lawn chair on which to sit during the movie.

WALK ACROSS TEXAS – Join a Walk Across Texas team at Rhome Public Library. Call 817-636-2767. We will begin walking March 21.

BOOK CLUB – The adult book club meets Tuesday, March 22. They are reading “Zane and the Hurricane” and “Heart of Betrayal.”

LIBRARY CRAFTS – Elementary students are invited to craft time 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 24. Participation is free, but RSVP is required. Call 817-636-2767.

STORY TIME – Preschool (ages 3 to 5) and baby (0 to 18 months) story times are 11 a.m. every Wednesday at Rhome Public Library. Caregivers bond with their children through song, rhymes and books.

WISE COUNTY

GOLF ASSOCIATION – The Oil Belt Men’s Golf Association opened its 2016 season this week. Men 50 years old or older may join the association. Initial enrollment fee is $20, and play is handicapped. FREE MAMMOGRAMS – The Mary’s Gift program at Wise Health System is offering free mammogram screenings for eligible women Wednesday, March 23, by appointment only. Call 940-626-1384 to apply.

BASEBALL SIGN-UPS – Made 2 Thrive and Wise County Special Needs Baseball have opened registration for the 2016 spring season. Any individual with special needs, age 3 or older, can play. BREASTFEEDING NETWORK – Wise Health System offers the Wise Moms Breastfeeding Network for mothers who have or are currently breastfeeding or providing expressed breast milk for their child. Expectant moms who are planning to breastfeed are also welcome. Group meeting times are as follows: 10:30 a.m. to noon April 6; and 1:30 to 2 p.m. March 23 and April 20. AG SCHOLARSHIP – Graduating high school seniors who plan to major in agriculture at a Texas college or university are eligible for the Jim Frank Hornback Scholarship sponsored by the Hornback family and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Leadership Advisory Board. The scholarship application is available at wise.agrilife.org. Required materials are due in the Wise County Extension office by April 15. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY – The Desk and Derrick Club of Wise County is offering scholarships to Wise County high school seniors. Applications can be obtained from the high school counselors or by contacting Crystal Watkins at Crystal.Watkins@dvn.com. The application deadline is Friday, April 1.

RELAY LUMINARIAS – Wise County Relay for Life Luminarias are now available to purchase for the upcoming event, Friday, April 22. CASINO NIGHT – A casino night benefiting CASA of Wise and Jack Counties is Saturday, April 30, at the Decatur Civic Center. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 and the casino opens at 7. Guest speaker is Justice LaRue, a former foster child. Tickets are $50 for individuals and $90 for couples. High roller tables are available, and sponsorships and auction items are being collected. MUSICAL GUEST – Jake Hooker will be at Wise County Cowboy Church 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 24. The church is at 2070 Old Denton Road, outside Decatur.

NEW CHOIR FORMING – A new choir has begun meeting in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Paradise, 501 Main St., 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. on Sundays. This choir is non-denominational and non-audition, open to all ages from 7th grade through adult. Its purpose is to offer an outlet to Wise County residents who love to sing and do not have any place to use their talent.
