RETIREMENT PARTY – There will be a come-and-go party for Alicia Huerta, who is retiring from the Bridgeport Post Office after 32 years, 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Saint John’s Catholic Church, 1801 Irvine St., in Bridgeport.

PRE-K REGISTRATION – Elementary school pre-kindergarten registration is 3:45 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 11, for children who are 4 or will be 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2016. Bring your child’s birth certificate, shot record, Social Security card, proof of residence (utility bills, etc.), proof of income and a picture ID of the adult enrolling the child. FESTIVAL PLANNING – The 34th Annual Butterfield Stage Days Festival and Rib Cookoff is Saturday, May 14, at Harwood Park in Bridgeport. Vendor applications and entries for the rib cook-off, best margarita and best dessert are being accepted. Call the Chamber at 940-683-2076.

BENEFIT ACCOUNT – A benefit account has been set up for Maria Vargas who was seriously burned in a fire at the San Miguel Taqueria on Texas 101 in Bridgeport last week. Donations to the Maria Vargas Benefit Account may be made at any Wells Fargo Bank location, and donations will be used to pay for medical expenses. She is currently in the burn unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.


YARD SALE – Disabled American Veterans will have its annual yard sale Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, at the DAV Hall, 2801 Farm Road 51 S., in Decatur. Donations for the sale will be accepted 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS – The Decatur volleyball program will be hosting fast-four tournaments each Monday in May at Decatur High School. You can bring your own team of four or show up and be placed on a team. Play is open to all ages. Registration is $10 per player and starts at 5:30 p.m. Play starts at 6 p.m. Players can register for the whole month for $35. For information, email

COW CHIP BINGO – Decatur 2016 Project Graduation is hosting cow chip bingo 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at NRS Ranch. Squares are $25 each or 5 for $100 for a chance to win $500 and be entered in a drawing for a Yeti Hopper 30 soft-sided cooler. There will be bounce houses, regular bingo with prizes and concessions. WALK OF FAITH – Hydrocephalus Dash of Faith is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, at the McCarroll Middle School track in Decatur. Pre-register until May 2 at Shear Madness Hair Salon, 1208 FM 51, Suite 0, in Decatur. Cost is $25 for adults and $13 for kids ages 6 to 12. Registration prices go up on event day. GOLF TOURNAMENT – The 2nd Annual Paradise Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is Saturday, May 21, at the Decatur Golf Club, 211 Country Club Rd. Cost is $400 for a four-person team, which includes a golf cart, meals, goody bag and two drink tickets per golfer. Cost for individuals is $100. They will be placed with a team. ART SHOW – The Wise County Art Association Youth Art Show is 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Decatur Civic Center. Students ages 6 to 18 may participate. Entries must be dropped off between 3 and 6 p.m. Friday, April 29. Three $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to Wise County high school seniors. The seniors don’t have to be pursuing an art degree to win scholarships.

CASINO NIGHT – A casino night benefiting CASA of Wise and Jack Counties is Saturday, April 30, at the Decatur Civic Center. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 and the casino opens at 7. FARM FESTIVAL – The Jerry Askey Memorial Farm Festival is May 5-7 at 635 Private Road 4531 in Decatur. There will be a swap meet 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 5, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, with a tractor fun pull 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7, activities include an antique tractor display, tractor pull, wheat thrashing, hay rides, tractor games and monster truck rides, among other things. CRAFT DAY – Mount Zion Baptist Church is having a day of crafting 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Bring your scrapbook, card-making supplies, crochet, needlework or any other craft you’re working on and enjoy a day of fellowship at MZ Bee. Bring your own lunch, snacks, soft drinks and water.
