North Central Texas College has been awarded the TG Charley Wootan Grant in the amount of $100,000.

Through this grant, NCTC will award $5,000 scholarships to 20 students on any of the five campuses. Any student may apply, but priority will be given to low-income, under-represented students.

Scholarship funds are payable over a maximum of two years. Students who receive the award for fall 2016 must use all funds by the end of the summer 2018 semester.

TG scholarship recipients who transfer to a university before the award funds are depleted and the scholarship term has ended may take the funds with them and apply the scholarship toward completion of their baccalaureate degree.

Along with scholarship funds, TG scholars will receive supportive services such as financial literacy training, career counseling and transfer preparation guidance.

“Being a former recipient of the TG Charley Wootan Grant scholarship, I know personally the significance and benefits of receiving this scholarship,” said NCTC TRIO adviser/coach Camilia Dunn. “It contributed greatly to my academic success, creating an opportunity to advance throughout my undergraduate program with less financial worries and ultimately helped me towards my professional career at North Central Texas College. I am very grateful for this award.”

TG awarded NCTC the TG Charley Wootan scholarship funds based on a competitive application process. No more than four institutions of higher education in Texas will offer its students Wootan scholarships in 2016.

The grant program is named in honor of a former chairperson of the TG Board of Directors, Dr. Charley V. Wootan.

The deadline to apply for these funds is July 29. This opportunity will only be available for the fall 2016 semester. To apply and for questions, contact Crystal Mohamed at cmohamed@nctc.edu or 940-498-6212.
