WISE ADDED TO STATE DISASTER DECLARATION – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott added Wise County to the state disaster declaration Friday afternoon in the wake of recent severe weather. Abbott made the original declaration May 11, and it included Bosque, Clay, Denton, Eastland, Gaines, Montague and Van Zandt counties. As of Friday, he had added not only Wise County, but also Cooke, Grimes, Hood, Navarro and Smith counties. Being part of the state disaster declaration will ensure the county is eligible to receive financial assistance from the state to aid in the recovery effort. SLIDELL RUNNERS EARN MEDALS – Slidell senior Caitlin Pruett finished second in the Class A 800 final at the state track meet Friday, earning a silver medal. Her teammate sophomore Kayson Roof made her way to the podium, taking second in the 300 hurdles. Alvord’s Joe Randall finished ninth in the 2A 100 Saturday. Northwest’s Jacob Suchors took fourth in the 6A 800.

BULLDOGS ADVANCE – The Alvord Bulldogs held off Blue Ridge 4-2 in game three Saturday to win their Class 2A Region II area series. Alvord advances to the region quarterfinal. Lindsay outlasted Chico in a pair of extra-inning games Friday to take their 2A area series.

WEEKEND RAINFALL – The rainy weather continued over the weekend, with some areas receiving more than an inch of rain. Rainfall totals included 1.6 inches in Alvord, 1.02 in Rhome, 0.76 in Bridgeport, 0.6 in Greenwood and 0.48 in Decatur. There is only a 20 percent chance of storms tonight, but storm chances range from 40 to 60 percent Tuesday through Sunday.

ARTHUR BRADY EXHIBIT – An exhibit featuring the work of Decatur artist Arthur Brady, best-known for painting bluebonnets, opens Thursday and runs through June 18 at the Decatur Visitors Center. The show was put together by Decatur Main Street and the Wise County Art Association. The opening reception, Wildflowers and Wine, is 5-7 p.m. Thursday.

NEW AMBULANCE HITS THE ROAD – Wise County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) recently rolled out a new ambulance, and despite a state-of-the-art setup, the new color is what’s piqued public curiosity. EMS opted for black, veering away from the traditional red. The new vehicle is being used by Medic 1 in Decatur, and another is expected to arrive this week for Medic 2. CLAY SHOOT – Bridgeport High School volleyball will hold a clay shoot fundraiser June 5 at Fossil Pointe. Cost is $100 per person and includes lunch, door prizes and a raffle. Registration is at 8 a.m. June 5 and the event starts at 9 a.m. Call 817-228-0512.

HONORING COACH WORLOW – Bridgeport ISD will honor Coach Pam Worlow for her 33 years of service to the district at a “Pam Worlow Day” event at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport Middle School Auditorium. All community members are invited.

DIABETES CLASSES – Total Diabetes Care at Wise Regional is now offering monthly diabetes education classes on the third Monday of the month. The classes are intended to help those with diabetes better understand and manage the disease. This month’s classes will be held today. The beginner class will be offered at 3 p.m., and the advanced class will be offered at 4 p.m. Both classes will be held in the Education Room on the second floor of the main hospital. Classes are free and will be taught by Dick Gilley RN, CCRN, CDE. No RSVP required. Contact Gilley at 940-626-1890 for more information.

SOCIAL GROUP – Fit-N-Wise Pediatric Therapy will host their monthly social group for children ages 6-12 who struggle with social interaction at 4:30 p.m. today. The group is led by a team of speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, who facilitate a language-rich environment, focusing on peer interactions and social success. DECATUR CHAMBER – Former Channel 8 anchorman Jeff Brady will be the speaker at Tuesday’s Decatur Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Decatur Civic Center. Brady now heads a consulting firm specializing in business branding and the use of social media. Call the Chamber at 627-3107 for reservations.

GRAVESIDE service for Olan Eakman, 77, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Terral Cemetery in Terral, Okla. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Randal Dunn, 70, of Haslet is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rhome Church of Christ with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.

SERVICE for Eva Elmore, 93, of Decatur is pending at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Ruth Cleveland Salyer, 73, is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bible Baptist Church in Bowie with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. She was the mother of Steve Cleveland of Chico and Becky Dear of Decatur.
